Genpo Roshi will lead two beautiful and significant Zen Buddhist ceremonies during which he will also explain their meaning as he officiates.
Jukai is a public ceremony in which a lay person receives the Buddhist Precepts from a Teacher who embodies the Buddhist Lineage. In this ceremony Thursday, May 4th, Genpo Roshi will be offering the Precepts to Zoe Adler of Salt Lake City.
Shukke Tokudo is the ceremony of ordination in which persons who have received the Buddhist Precepts renew those vows and take on a deeper commitment to live their life as the life of the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, for their own sake and the sake of others. Dan Landgré of Lund, Sweden, and Brenden Faber of Salt Lake City will be ordained Friday evening, May 5th.
The ceremonies will take place at the Episcopal Conference Center in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. A quiet period of meditation beginning at 7:30 pm will precede the ceremonies, which will begin promptly at 8:00 pm.
The public is cordially invited to both ceremonies.
