The Six Paramitas or Six Perfections are:
Param means “the other shore” and itas, means “to have reached,” so Paramita means to have reached the other shore, or nirvana, liberation and peace. What we realize in Zen is that the other shore is this shore. There is no other shore. The seeming separation is eliminated. Wherever we are, is the other shore. There is no window or doorway to go through.
There is another interesting interpretation of Paramitas: “the best, the very best,” “unsurpassable.” The Paramitas are the very best, so the very best, unsurpassable realization of the first Paramita is to give oneself away completely. The willingness to abandon everything or to cast everything away, that’s true giving and the most direct path to complete freedom and happiness.
Martial Arts Master Michael Berger will once again be offering karate / exercise classes during the afternoon breaks.
