Big Mind
Big Mind is the Direct Experience of Expanded Awareness.
Most people live from a very limited perspective.
We identify with a single voice in the mind — a role, a position, a belief — and unconsciously assume that it defines who we are.
From that narrow vantage point, life becomes more complicated than it needs to be: conflict increases, reactivity rises, and clarity diminishes.
Big Mind changes that.
Big Mind is the direct experience of a much larger awareness, one that is not limited to any single identity or point of view. It is not a belief system. It is not philosophy. It is an experience.

A Different Way of Working with the Mind
The Big Mind Process is a structured method that enables individuals to access and shift between multiple perspectives within their own mind.
Instead of trying to eliminate the ego or fix the personality, this approach works directly with it.
Each of us contains many distinct perspectives — what we call “voices”:
- the controller
- the skeptic
- the protector
- the fearful one
- the achiever
- the critic
In most people, these operate unconsciously.
We don’t realize we are shifting between them, or that we are identified with one at a time.
The result is predictable: rigidity, internal conflict, and limited thinking.
The Big Mind Process makes these perspectives conscious.
And once they are conscious, something opens.
Change Perspectives
When you are no longer locked into a single identity, several things happen immediately:
- You gain flexibility
- You see more clearly
- You stop reacting automatically
- You begin to choose your response
This is not theoretical.
It is practical, observable, and trainable. As the capacity to move between perspectives develops, a deeper shift occurs: You begin to recognize that you are not any one of these voices.
Discover Your Mind
Beyond all perspectives is an awareness that contains them. This is what we call Big Mind.
Big Mind is:
- The awareness that holds all viewpoints
- The intelligence that is not limited by any position
- The clarity that exists prior to reactive thinking
Here, it is experienced directly, not as an idea, but as reality.
Gain Clarity
As the ability to hold multiple perspectives stabilizes, a new level of functioning appears.
We call this the Apex.
The Apex is where:
- Opposing viewpoints can coexist
- Complexity no longer overwhelms
- Decisions become clearer
- Intelligence becomes more integrated
Instead of choosing between sides, you can include them. Instead of reacting, you can respond.
For leaders, this is not optional — it is essential.
Practical Impact
People who work with the Big Mind Process consistently report:
- Greater clarity under pressure
- Increased emotional intelligence
- Improved decision-making
- Reduced internal conflict
- More effective communication
- The ability to navigate complexity without collapse
One of the most significant shifts is simple: They stop being run by unconscious patterns. And start taking responsibility for how they think, feel, and act.
Integrate Your Life
Experiencing Big Mind is not the end.
It is the beginning.
The real work is integration — learning how to live from that awareness in real situations:
- in relationships
- in leadership
- in conflict
- in uncertainty
This means:
- Moving fluidly between perspectives
- Staying grounded in awareness
- Acting with clarity and responsibility
When this integration develops, something changes at a fundamental level: Life becomes less reactive and more intentional.
A Modern Method for an Ancient Insight
The Big Mind Process was developed through decades of working with people in real-world conditions, not in isolation, but in the complexity of modern life.
It integrates:
- Deep contemplative insight
- Direct experiential methods
- Modern psychological understanding (including Voice Dialogue)
The result is a method that allows people to access profound awareness. Otherwise, without the Big Mind technique, you could spend years of traditional training first.
It does not replace deeper practice.
It accelerates access.
Where We Come From

Kanzeon's Zen Lineage
Kanzeon's roots reach back through Maezumi Roshi to the convergence of three streams of Zen Buddhism: the Sōtō school, the Jōkō–Kōryū Rinzai stream, and the Harada–Yasutani koan lineage.

Big Mind's History
The Big Mind process emerged from three sources: Carl Jung's recognition of the multiple psyche, Hal and Sidra Stone's Voice Dialogue method, and Genpo Roshi's Zen training. Three streams, one breakthrough.
Stories of Transformation
“Genpo Roshi was unforgettable—on fire, intense, and profoundly moving. His energy drew me in completely, leaving me inspired and deeply connected.”
“A powerful experience of radical honesty and self-disclosure from both Roshi and the Sangha. It confirmed my own path of teaching with openness and vulnerability, helping me and others move deeper into self-acceptance. Something remarkable happens when you simply show up, question without judgment, and allow the process to unfold.”
“A magical experience—joyful, inspiring, and crystal clear. His presence was electrifying, blending wisdom, humor, and performance into an unforgettable experience that touched my heart and filled me with energy, love, and understanding.”
Many voices. One transmission.
Genpo Roshi has transmitted the dharma to more than 28 successors teaching in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. The Kanzeon sangha extends across more than a dozen centers worldwide, each carrying this lineage forward in their own voice.
