Jigen Sensei

Charlotte Jigen Juul is a Zen teacher and somatic practitioner whose work integrates direct awakening experience, psychological depth, and relational practice. She holds an M.A. in Buddhist Psychology from Naropa University and a B.A. in Transpersonal Psychotherapy from the Psychosynthesis Trust in London. She is a certified Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) and a certified Big Mind Facilitator.

Jigen received Jukai in 2010, Shukke Tokudo in 2018, and Shiho (Dharma Transmission) in August 2024 from Genpo Roshi. She completed koan study following several years of intensive training, including a one-year solo retreat.

Her spiritual path began in the mid-1990s and deepened in 2000 through full-time spiritual training within EnlightenNext, under the guidance of Andrew Cohen, where her focus was collective or group awakening. After leaving that community in 2008, she encountered Zen Buddhism through Genpo Roshi and recognized it as her path of practice and transmission.

Jigen draws from her experience with Zen Buddhist practice, psychology and collective awakening to explore how awakening unfolds not only individually, but within relationships, sangha, and culture, and how habitual patterns of fear and separation can be met and transformed through practice. A central focus of her work is sangha awakening —how groups awaken to themselves and how collective wisdom deepens beyond individual insight.

In addition to her role as a teacher with Kanzeon Big Mind, Jigen is the founder of CoreWork (est. 2006), where she offers integrative spiritual and psychological work. She lives and practices in Oregon.
