Monday Active Students Gold & Platinum Check-In
with Genpo Roshi
All Active Student Gold & Platinum members should take advantage of these Wednesday Check-Ins. As Roshi enters his 51st year of teaching, these classes are designed to give maximum support to Roshi's closest students for their individual Zen practices. His personalized guidance is essential.
Gold & Platinum members are also encouraged to contact Genpo Roshi by phone or email to work on Koans or get help with study of the important Zen texts that are in our Highly Recommended Reading list. That list can be found under the main menu "Membership" on the page called Zen Resources.
Here's a direct link to the Zen Resources page.
Genpo Roshi’s Sunday talks have long been a highlight of Kanzeon/Big Mind life, a great introduction to Roshi, Zen and Big Mind for beginners, and a vital source of inspiration and community for long-time students and members.
Active Student Zen Talks are included as one of the benefits for Kanzeon Big Mind Active Student Members. They will get their Zoom Links automatically and don't need to Register here.

Tuesday Living Zen with Genpo Roshi's Successor Teachers
Three Days to Kensho
Day 1: First, A Mountain is a Mountain Day 2: Then, There is No Mountain Day 3: Then, Once Again There is a Mountain
Day 1: First, A Mountain is a Mountain
Day 2: Then, There is No Mountain
Day 3: Then, Once Again There is a Mountain
Kensho, seeing one's True Nature, is the essence and the heart of Zen practice. Few of us are fortunate enough to encounter this treasure of Zen Buddhism directly and intimately.
In three days participants will be guided on this journey, as described in Dogen Zenji's famous teaching, "The Mountains and Rivers Sutra":
First, coming from our everyday mind as it seeks the way.
Then, transcending the Dualistic to be one with all things.
Finally, returning to daily life, now and forever transformed.
5-Day Kensho Retreat on Zoom
Kensho, is a Japanese word translated as "Seeing one's true nature." It's an initial insight or awakening. It is to be followed by further training to deepen this insight, and learn to express it in daily life.
Genpo Roshi has designed these retreats specifically to work with students on this central and important experience of Zen. It's an opportunity that doesn't come along very often.
This retreat is limited to 5 students and each will work directly with Genpo Roshi individually and in the group for 2.5 hours each day.
Big Heart Events are special 5 Day intensive retreats with Genpo Roshi that are limited to a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 7 participants who wish to go very deep into their personal practice.
Roshi has decided that after his final tour of Europe last summer, he will limit his exhaustive travel schedule and reserve his time and energy for those who are dedicated enough to come to him in Hawaii where he will be able to do his utmost to share the fruits of his 50 years of practice.
This is a remarkable opportunity to deepen your personal practice with the guidance of Genpo Roshi in a beautiful and relaxing setting with just a few other advanced students.
Big Heart Retreats are also the principal means of raising funds to support Genpo Roshi’s Big Mind/Big Heart work throughout the world, to expand live and virtual teaching programs, provide scholarships for qualified students to participate in Kanzeon Big Mind Zen events, provide resources like the Big Mind Zen Media Archive, and to ensure the continued sustainability of our organization and Kanzeon Sangha. Big Heart Events are our way of giving back to those who so generously sponsor our efforts. Your generous donation is essential to carrying on this work.
